How a Long Drive Turned Into a Sales Book That Doesn’t Suck
Apr 01, 2026Flashback four years ago:
On a long drive together Peter said,
“Are you ever going to write a book?”
I said,
“I don’t know. If I do, it can’t be boring. I’ve read too many of those.”
We dropped it… and went back to laughing about outrageous sales stories.
A year later, another long drive:
Peter goes,
“I have an idea… what if we wrote a graphic novel about sales?”
That sounded NOT boring to me.
So we tested it.
Six months writing stories.
Not bad.
Went on the hunt for an illustrator.
Found Eli.
Then we just kept going—one story a month to see where it led.
Two years later, we had a pile of true, funny comics with real lessons across sales, marketing, and leadership.
At the same time, I’m doing what I always do—helping PE/VC-backed SaaS companies fix and scale outbound.
Which means building playbooks.
Strategy for leadership.
Details for the team.
Everything documented so it actually works.
That’s when it clicked:
Take the stories.
Match them to the playbook.
Turn it into something people would actually read.
Something that moves.
Something NOT boring.
We got close.
Then we brought in Kory to help us finish it right.
That completed the team.
And here we are.
Book launch day.
I’m pretty damn proud of this.
It’s entertaining.
It’s instructive.
It goes from strategy to real examples.
It looks incredible (Eli crushed it).
And it’s laid out beautifully (Kory nailed it).
Most importantly:
It’s not boring.
This is no April Fool’s joke.
The book is officially out today.
Available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and pretty much anywhere online. Visit stearns.io/book for more info and links to your favorite bookseller.
If you’re a sales leader, this will help you build a real prospecting playbook.
If you’re not, you’ll still laugh—and probably learn something.
