I read Adam Grant’s Give and Take around 2015, a few years into running my consulting business.

I was wrestling with a basic question:
How much should I give away?

Share freely on LinkedIn? Help anyone who asked? Or guard the “secret sauce” and only open the vault for paying clients?
My instinct was to give. Others warned me not to. And I still had to pay the bills.

Give and Take settled it. The data and stories made the answer obvious: generosity wins. Give freely, consistently, and the rest takes care of itself. That’s exactly how things have played out.

The book makes a bigger point, too: giving without keeping score creates real wealth — financial and emotional.

You earn a good living because people want to help you. And you feel better because generosity makes life lighter.
